Krispy Kreme Doughnuts - Surrey/Delta

Krispy Kreme

 7153 120 Street, Delta, BC V4E 2A9(604) 507-8803
http://www.krispykreme.com/home

My hometown of Delta hosts the only Krispy Kreme (that I am aware of)
in British Columbia. I remember being 13 when it first opened and large crowds
gathered to get their hands on these sweet treats. I can't remember how many doughnuts I ate that opening night but being so young I did not hold back.

Tim Horton's is the go to place for most of us in B.C. but I think it is nice to change things up a bit and  see what else is out there. My girlfriend likes to bring up that I have a Krispy Kreme near my house
so when we in Delta we find ourselves going in every now and then for some gluttonous fun.

I think it is a pretty nice looking store, kind of a diner feel on the interior. You also get to see the doughnuts being made on a large conveyor belt which can be interesting (If the light is on outside it means they are making them).

As for the actual doughnuts, I find them to be pretty sweet. Eating more than two in a sitting can be quite the challenge (I may just be a wimp) but they are quite good. They have a pretty good variey and their regular glazed doughnuts are always a nice treat. They are a bit pricier than Timmy's which may explain why the store is usually not that busy, that and the fact that Scottsdale Mall does not have many stores to draw people to the area.

If you are in the neighborhood and looking for something sweet, it is always fun to get a variety of doughnuts that you have not tried before. You can't miss the store driving down Scott Road.

The Fish Net - Crescent Beach

12211 Beecher Street Map.89e43c7
Surrey, BC V4A3G2

Blessed with plenty of sun this summer, my brother and I made it a point to go to the beach every Saturday, from May-September. Spanish Banks, Whiterock, Kits, Wreck, we did them all.
Of course two brothers packing a picnic to share at the beach could seem a little weird, so we usually went and got food afterwards.

The decided to try the Fish Net, which is located in the Crescent Beach area, around where all the other restaurants are.

Keeping things simple we both went for their One Piece Cod and Chips - $7.50
The fish was a good size which was good because I could not justify spending $15.00 on the two piece meal. There is something about eating fish and chips near the ocean that makes them taste so much better..maybe I am just crazy.

I wasn't too stoked on the tartar sauce coming in a little packet like this, but other than that I did not have any complaints (The cashier did not seem like he wanted to be there, but I can't blame a teenage boy stuck at work on a Saturday to not be happy). The food was decent, the view was nice, and the sun was shining.

Nagoya Sushi...Holy Shashimi ! - Surrey

First off, I must say how have I never heard of this place before! My ex gym partner (we still talk) asked me if I wanted to go to this sushi place he likes in Surrey. Naturally I asked the name and then looked it up on Yelp and Urbanspoon. No blog posts on it, but the user reviews were good, I was game. He was telling me about how awesome their Sake Don (Salmon) was and I figured this place sounded legit.

Even though he had been here before he was too busy talking and drove right by the place, we had to do a "legal" u-turn to get back. It is located in the Green Timbers Plaza, next to a bar and liquor store. A big illuminated sign saying SUSHI gives it away.

With any dine in order you get one complimentary bowl of miso soup, extras are 50 cents. The soup was good, nothing extraordinary..it's miso soup, pretty hard to go wrong with it. As we sipped on it another surprise arrived at the table...Free food!

Apparently dine-in customers get free food. Wow I can't argue with that..bring it on! The waitress brought out two Salmon Patties. They were a very decent size and quite tasty. I think serving complimentary appetizers is a great way to get customers to come back..well at least I'll  be coming back.

My friend ordered the Sake Don $10.50. There was a good 10 huge pieces of Salmon Sashimi...like literally massive pieces of fish. I was quite impressed with his dish. My friend and I enjoy working out quite a bit so we enjoy eating a lot of food, he even struggled finishing this. There was also rice and a small salad served with this.

I decided I would order some rolls. I got a Salmon Maki, Spicy Tuna, and Beef Rolls. All of the rolls were very tasty and very filling. Again they put a lot of fish in these rolls which was awesome. I think for the three it was just under $10.  The spicy tuna wasn't very spicy but still was very good. Now the best part about these rolls was the Salmon Maki. If you look in the top left corner you can see one of the rolls had kind of fell apart..want to know why? because there was a huge piece of salmon inside it.
That is the size of the pieces of salmon they put inside there maki rolls...it was only $2.50 for the 6 rolls but the amount of salmon inside was comparable to an order of salmon sashimi at most places.

I was very impressed with this place and look forward to going back.

I believe this place is Korean run by a family it looked like, and let me say they are doing a great job of it. Complimentary food and large pieces of fish..they have recommendation any day.

Apparently once a week on Wednesdays they make their rolls from a combination of brown, white, and black rice, to encourage healthier eating.

I took home a menu so hopefully I can scan it and add some pictures.. thanks for reading!

Final Thoughts:
-This place was awesome...Go!

Surf & Turf Market Grill (Surrey)

* Restaurant now Closed

The Location of this restaurant has been host to numerous other failed ventures in the past. It is located in the strip mall that is Strawberry Hills (where I work!). I just recently noticed this restaurant even though I had past to many times before without realizing. I saw that they had a $5 Lunch special so I decided one day for lunch I would try it out. You had your choice of 4 different skewers, I opted for the Souvlaki Chicken, and the Lamb, you got a choice of side as well and I ordered the Pasta Salad. The Lamb was pretty spicy but there was not a lot of that lamb taste I enjoy. The chicken was nice and tender and quite tasty. I love pasta salad and this one was actually good. This meal by no means filled me up, not much does for $5 now a days but it was better than I expected to be. If I feel like something different one day at work I might just return and try out something else on their menu. North Delta doesn't really have a restaurant with this idea yet so maybe this place will last longer than it's other owners.

Donegal's Irish Pub- Surrey

Donegal's Irish Pub is a cozy spot located in Surrey. Located just on the border of North Delta, it was a close drive for my friends and I. We just wanted to grab a couple drinks and food while watching the Canucks Game. I had never been here before so I thought there was no better time than the present.

I scoured the menu to see what the daily deals were. Moosehead for $5.25 a bottle (stupid expensive beer prices in Canada) and they had panko crusted prawns for $0.35 each. They also had a beef dip and fries for $6 which was a really great deal for the amount of food.

I opted for a bottle of moosehead, which seemed to disappear as quick as soon as it was brought to our table. I also got 12 prawns to snack on.

I really enjoyed the prawns. Living so close to the ocean I wish I knew how to catch these little suckers. The prawns were accompanied with a basic cocktail sauce which was pleasant to dip them in. They weren't greasy either. When I heard panko breaded prawns I had a picture in my mind that these deep fried little guys would be dripping with oil, but upon getting them my negative views were washed away.
beef dip (not actual photo from restaurant)

Another guy at our table got the beef dip with fries. For $6 the portion was great. If I wasn't on such a tight budget I would have definitely ordered that dish as well. This was a pretty quiet place for a game night which was fine for me. I enjoy being able to have conversations without straining to hear. I will definitely be checking out some of the food specials on other days of the week. Monday is Meatball day which sounds very tempting.
