Romer's Burger Bar - Kerr Street (River District)

Romer's Burger Bar
Yesterday was my birthday! and I was lucky enough to choose were dinner was being had this particular night!
Since it had been a year since I had enjoyed the deliciousness that is Romer's, it was an obvious choice for tonight.

The Patio

The Sun made an appearance so we decided on the patio..so nice!

Fresh Garlic Fries - toasted sea salt $5.
I love these fries. While eating garlic on its own may get me some weird looks, these fries make for a perfect excuse to                                                       enjoy this pungent little clove.

Wicked Deadly Cheeseburger - 5 cheeses, red onion, Tuscan greens,  Russian taragon dressing $11
Since they took the Americano off the menu my girlfriend ordered the Wicked Deadly Cheeseburger. You can`t go                        wrong with cheese, and lots of it! I had a small bite and it got two thumbs up from me.

Man`s Man Burger - Thick-sliced applewood bacon, local creamery amber ale cheddar, onion strings, smoked alder salts, vine-ripened tomato, whole grain mustard $11
Being such a manly man (might be a slight lie) I went for this burger. It was a great one, I have had it a long time ago and needed a little refresher. The onion straws and bacon really made this for me, I really love the brioche buns they use as well.

Cheers!

Burger 55 - Fantastic Albeit Pricey Burgers in Penticton

85 Westminster Avenue East  Penticton, BC

Burger 55

Burger 55 was a stop on my radar during my Penticton Trip.
Custom Custom Custom is a word that comes to mind when it comes to this place. You
can really have your burger however you want it.

Ordering Wall

When you walk in, to the side there is a wall with a bunch of order forms, where you fill out what you want. To get an idea here is a link to their online menu (definitely worth a check out).

You do have to be careful with the ticking off of boxes because the price can sneak up on you :)

 Peter's Custom Made Burger

This delicious looking burger consisted of, Beef, 55 Bun, JalapeƱo Havarti, 55 Buddah Sauce, Roasted Garlic, Pico de Galo, Baby Spinach, and Cilantro. This added up to be $6.95 which included $5.95 for the initial burger and $1 for cheese. I went pretty cheap on mine but my girlfriends was closer to $11.

This was definitely one of the better burgers I have had, it was made fresh and was absolutely delicious.

As far as favourite burgers go, Romer's, White Spot and Burger 55 are a toss up for first place

I will definitely come back and try something else next time I'm there and I'd check it out if you are ever in the area.

Romer's Burger Bar - Kerr Street (River District)

Man I was faced with a tough decision. My 21st birthday and I had to chose somewhere to eat.
My girlfriends mom suggested the Keg (no suprise there) and while it was tempting I wanted to go somewhere more casual.

I had been wanting to check the somewhat new location of Romer's Burger Bar ever since I heard it was host to a nice patio with views of the Fraser River.
When my girlfriend asked if I wanted to go there I quickly decided yes please!

We had been to the location on West 4th so we thought it would be fun to check this one out.

I spotted the restaurant while we were driving along Marine Way, the exterior quickly gave it away. It is a very nice looking restaurant and it feels like it is almost in the middle of no where..apparently a lot of people are aware of this no where restaurant as well because it was packed.

The patio was full when we got there, and being quite famished we grabbed a table inside.

Rodeo Star - $11
Ancho starbuck spice, thick-sliced applewood bacon, red onions, vine-ripened tomatoes, horseradish jack, smoky bbq sauce, cilantro.

.I went with the Rodeo Star Burger, what can I say? a fantastic burger. There were quite a few interesting stand out flavors in this burger. The horseradish jack, bbq sauce, and cilantro gave it a unique taste I have never had in a burger before.
I would love to eat this sandwich again but there are still a few more items on the menu I'd like to try first.

Americano - $11
Iceberg lettuce, fried cheddar planks, red onion,
vine-ripened tomatoes, yellow mustard, bacon mayo

My girlfriend went with the Americano Burger. One thing definitely stood out about this burger and of course that thing was her favorite part...I'm talking about the fried cheddar planks. I initially thought they were onions rings and had to be corrected. I had a small bite and was able to get a bit of the cheddar plank and I must say it was a very good addition to the burger. I think anything crispy is a safe bet when it comes to a burger. I didn't really get a taste of the bacon mayo, but my lady said she could taste it.

Thomas Kemper Root Beer

Although I had just turned 21, I don't think I look it yet. I forgot to bring id with me so I didn't order anything alcoholic, I opted for root beer instead. It was tasty, nothing too special about it, although I did like that they used cane sugar in it, instead of corn syrup.

My girlfriend ordered a rose lemonade, I did not take a picture of the bottle but I highly recommend getting it. It was so refreshing and the rose just added that extra bit of awesomeness to it.

Final Thoughts:

-
Their garlic fries are fantastic
- Get the Drunken Donuts (you won't regret it)
- Good assortment of burgers (they are a la carte)
- Burgers are somewhat pricey but well worth it

Romer's Burger Bar - Kitsilano

source : Sherman's Food Adventures
My girlfriend and I were at the festival on West 4th this past Saturday. I enjoy this part of town because there are many restaurants, and with the roads closed we could take our time and check all of them out.
One of the first things I saw was that Romer's Burger Bar had a booth up and they were making sliders. We said we'd get some on our way out. Well on the way out they were all sold out.. so we did the next best thing and went into the restaurant.

It was a little dark inside and my camera does not do well in dim lighting so the quality of the pictures aren't the best..sorry.

We ordered and shared the
Man's Man Burger - Thick-sliced applewood bacon, local creamery amber ale cheddar, onion strings, smoked alder salts, vine-ripened tomato, whole grain mustard. I was hoping it would come out whole for a better picture but at least you can see a good cross suction view of it. Kind of weird but one of my favorite parts about the burger was the actual bun. It was really nice.. not sure how I would describe it. You can see the nice colour of the patty which was nice and juicy. A very enjoyable burger, definitely one of the better ones I have had in Vancouver.

We ordered the Garlic Fries tossed in sea-salt.These were delicious! I have been craving these for the last couple days since I've gone there. I love garlic and will eat it on almost anything and these were some very well done fries.
I would like to try the Truffle oil ones sometime too.

For dessert we got the Drunken Donuts. Pretty much every review I had read said these were amazing. I thought we ought to try them. The came with three dipping sauces, Limoncello, Khalua Nutella, and Maple Whisky. Both my girlfriend and I enjoyed the Maple Whisky Dip the most. The donuts were very good, I had an almost euphoric feeling in my brain as I took a bite of one. I may just have to get these the next time I go.

Five Guys Burgers & Fries (West Van)

Five Guys Burgers & Fries (West Van)
2002 Park Royal S

West Vancouver, BC V7T

www.fiveguys.com

After a long day of skiing at Whistler the only viable option for eats on the way home was Five Guys Burger & Fries. I had never been here but it had been on my radar for some time. The day prior I had gone to Fatburger so I had a bit of a burger tooth going on.

Upon entering the establishment my ears were filled with wonderful music, "Blue Jean" by David Bowie. I had given this place a thumbs up without even eating the food anywhere that plays David Bowie gets kudos from me.
Looking at the menu there was not a wide variety, which is fine with me it makes for an easy decision.
I opted for the Little Cheeseburger $5.99 (which was by no means little). I did not get a drink or fries because that jacks the price up quite a bit. A great thing about Five Guys is that all toppings are free, I of course got all of them put on (Mayo, Relish, Onions, Lettuce, Pickles, Tomatoes, Grilled Mushrooms).

One more thing that made the experience really cool was that they had peanuts in shells to eat while you waited for your food.
This reminded me of being in California, eating peanuts on the pier as seagulls circled hungrily overhead. I quite enjoyed having something to munch on. The peanuts were an exquisite mix of crunchiness with a nice smooth finish (ok i'll be serious now).
The food came and upon unwrapping my burger I wasn't quite sure what to think.
Not exactly a thing of beauty.. I guess when you try and stuff that many ingredients into a burger the end result isn't always pretty. I was not particularity wowed by the burger. It was good don't get me wrong and I would definitely get it again but there wasn't really anything that set it apart from other places.
I think I have to retract my previous statement, there is one thing that sets it apart from some places..when I was done I was left with quite a hearty salad.
I usually like having the salad as an appetizer but in this case it was dessert.
My girlfriend got fries with her meal so I snapped a picture of them. What you see in the picture is about 1/4 of the fries you actually get, the rest are in the bag the food came in..there was a lot of them.
I thought the fries were really good. I mean when your claim to fame is Burger and Fries you better make some good ones. The fries are fried in peanut oil which gives them a darker colour and a little different taste. I quite enjoyed them.

Verdict:- Big burgers, great deal with free toppings
- Complimentary Peanuts are a win
-David Bowie playing (speaks for itself)
- Fries fried in Peanut oil is a nice change
To end things off I'll throw up a beautiful view we had in between Harmony and Symphony bowl on top of Whistler Mountain.

FatBurger- Burnaby

Fatburger
4461 Lougheed Hwy
Burnaby, BC V5C
view the menu
After working an early shift at work and then taking transit over to Burnaby I was in desperate need for sustenance. Fatburger was close by and I hadn't been in a while so I thought why not. I am always down for a burger so this worked out perfectly

The sign outside said "Best Burger" it seems there are a lot of "Best Burgers" around town. I like going to the location on Denman, since it's usually the summer time that I go on the way to the beach but I humbled myself and ate at Lougheed. I really enjoy the interiors of FatBurger, they have lots of newspaper clippings and comical signs. I saw there was a special going on, A Double Cheeseburger Combo for $9.99. Being a sucker for signs with specials on them I ordered this.

For $9.99 this was a pretty good deal, considering Fatburger isn't exactly the cheapest place to get a burger.
The burger was very good, no the best I've had though..still trying to find that perfect one. There was lots of bacon but the burger itself wasn't too huge. I think because it was a combo special the burger was a little smaller than the others. Their King Burger does a very good job of filling me up. .I like my sandwich to have to be held together with a toothpick to keep it from bursting.

My girlfriend ordered the Spicy Chicken Sandwich (her usual fare). The great thing (among many others) about having a girlfriend is getting to eat their leftovers..yes I am gluttonous at times but I secretly hope she won't be able to finish her meal so I can step in and eat it all!

I really like the chicken sandwich, I believe the hot sauce on the table is the same sauce they put on it. It has a very nice kick to it. One thing I think is amusing at this particular Fatburger is that when you order your meal the cashier yells it out and the cooks in unison repeat the order..I feel bad because at times I don't think they are very enthusiastic about doing this.

Final Thoughts
-A little pricey for what you get
-I think the burgers are pretty solid and tasty
-If you want to be cheap just order a burger..they are filling enough

Burger Heaven- New Westminster

I can't believe I have never gone here before. It is literally a 5 minute walk from Douglas College, where I have been going for nearly two years. Today I had to briefly stop by the school library to return a couple books. This seemed like a bit of waste to me, go all the way to school just to return books? yeah right I need food! Sun, shining, sun roof open on the jeep, and music blasting, I dragged my part time vegetarian girlfriend to Burger Heaven.

My eyes were instantly drawn to all the pictures and magazine articles all over the walls and tables. The surface of the tables was glass and underneath the glass there was a myriad of what seemed like family pictures. Pictures of people dining on the walls, along with newspaper articles referring to Burger Heaven gave this place a very unique sense of style. We were there around noon and there was a man with a video camera walking around. I figured he was doing a news feature on the restaurant, I was secretly hoping he would come by so I could give a shout out to my blog aha.

The menu hosted quite an extensive list of items, they even had a Kangaroo and an Elk burger. I was very tempted because I have never had kangaroo before but not wanting to break the bank I opted for the conservative BBQ Cheddar & Bacon Burger $11.49. This is not particularly cheap for a burger, although this is a sit down restaurant so the price is about what you would pay at most places. I was expecting good things though and I eagerly awaited my food.
I was certainly not disappointed, this burger was a very  good portion for me and the patty was huge. My digestive enzymes were getting excited just looking at this thing of beauty. As you can see by the picture on the right this burger was a very good size. The BBQ sauce was a great addition and you can't go wrong with cheese and bacon. I was not very keen on the potato wedges that came with the meal but that is not what I came for. I highly recommend trying this place out, this is one of the best burgers I've had in a long time.

My girlfriend ordered the Grilled Cheddar Cheese and Tomato Sandwich and substituted a Cesar salad in place of the regular green salad. She quite enjoyed her meal and I must say it looked mighty tasty, She was not feeling generous enough to let me have a bite :(
It seems that the camera guy (I referred to near the beginning) was here because of this promotion of sorts that Burger Heaven does during elections. They had a list at each table of different burgers representing the different political parties, if you click on the picture you can read a brief description of each one. I felt the need to vote green in this particular case. I wasn't really sure if you could actually order the burgers from this special menu or if it was just for fun, I should have asked because the Duceppe Burger- Quebecois sounded pretty tasty.

There you have it, a great place to eat in New Westminster oh and I forgot to mention that they have Russels Beer on tap.. +1 from me for having Lemon Ale. Check it out!

Triple O's - Coquitlam

Bacon Cheddar Burger
Burgers are one of my favorite food groups and oddly I realised I have yet to have any posts about them. One of my favorites is the Bacon Cheddar Burger from Triple O's or White Spot. After class I was going to go to Tim Hortons for a quick snack, however my stomach began telling me otherwise. Helpless I obeyed and I went to Triple O's and got a nice big burger. I am always happy with the quality of food here and for a moderate price I think this burger is quite great.

An Angelic Ray basks the BC burger in glory
If you are feeling generous  and feel like treating me to lunch/dinner, I have a couple Burger joints that have gained my interest; Romer's Burger Bar in Kitsilano, and Moderne Burger also in Kitsilano.
If you feel it in your heart, please invite me out for lunch, I am a nice guy and not too bad to look at either.
